Financial Director - Board of Directors

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Financial Director (FD) is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all accounting for Cattery Lounge and Snackery. This includes fiscal record keeping and ensuring that all accounting activities are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, legal, regulatory, and organizational procedures. The FD will support the overall goals of the organization and ensure that all finance services are delivered professionally and efficiently.

Major Responsibilities

• Serves as a contributing member of the executive board•Actively contributes to the boards’ short and long term strategic plans • Recommends timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals • Develops, presents, and tracks an annual budget for Cattery Lounge • Provides monthly budget updates to the executive board • Approves annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities • Monitors, approves or denies, and documents all outgoing expenses • Sets event budgets • Maintains accurate and up-to-date fundraising and financial records • Sends accurate and timely donation receipts by email, including end-of-year receipts to recurring donors • Provides financial data for the annual report at the conclusion of each fiscal year • Prepares and files annual IRS tax documents• Reconciles monthly bank statements • Responsible for overseeing all financial documents and agreements made and entered into and on behalf of the organization • Ensures that operating results established in the annual budget are achieved and operating expenses are within budget • Ability to respectfully and positively represent the organization • Assists with fundraising activities • Ability to make decisions for the benefit of the organization • Fosters and nurtures relationships with current donors • Uses external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities • Submits all major organizational materials to the Internal Communication Director Key capabilities • Intermediate knowledge of general accounting principles • Specific knowledge of the standard rules and regulations of maintaining 501(c)(3) status • General knowledge of basic IRS compliance, specific to a nonprofit charitable organization

• Resourcefulness and creativity, specific to maintaining low overhead costs and an effective but modest operating budget • Ability to ensure compliance to minimum standards in accordance with all government legislation, regulations, and guidelines pertinent to Cattery Lounge’s state and federal nonprofit status • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission, vision, and goals of the Cattery Lounge • Ability to communicate with and engage a diverse community of supporters • Strong oral and written communication skills•Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, including multitasking and prioritizing to meet deadlines • Is accessible for and provides timely communication between meetings through email and text messages • Strong organizational and leadership skills•Ability to coordinate with organizational members

Professional Qualifications •A bachelor’s degree or higher; preferably within the field of business and/or accounting AND/OR •Professional experience with significant leadership role(s) in business, education, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector •Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe products, Gmail, Google Drive, basic HTML websites, and financial management programs
•Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reportingCommitment and Terms
•Will serve a 3-year term and be eligible for reappointment one additional year at a time.
•Needs to work independently and have access to their own resources (computer, software,internet access, etc.) for the position. Financial software will be provided by the Cattery Lounge. This positions requires most duties to be performed outside of committee meetings.
•Will provide at least 4 hours of service at the Cattery Lounge
•Will attend monthly executive board meetings.
•In order to attend board meetings and various events, this position requires working on evenings and weekends
